In recent years, Mexico's northern border state Chihuahua had the highest murder rate of the whole country and is still considered one of the most dangerous states in Mexico, if not in whole Latin America.
For 2012, the national statistics institute reports 26,037 violent deaths nation-wide, which gives 22 homicides per 100,000 residents. Chihuahua with its 2,783 deaths (that's 7.6 murders a day) farly outnumbers this rate, which there goes up to 77 per every 100,000 residents.
So it's even sadder that people have to die because of lacking security measures in some meaningless shows. On Saturday (5/10/2013) a driver in Chihuahua's Extremo Aeroshow lost control of his monster truck, resulting in 13 dead spectators (amongst them several children) and some 50 casualties.
It's so sad to see this, knowing that some better security measures could have easily avoided such a senseless accident... For the rubbernecks, here's a video...
